On Feb 14, 2011, Shawna Forde, head of the Minutemen American Defense group, was found guilty of murder. On Feb 22 a jury sentenced her to death.

May 30, El Salvador’s Health Minister approved the C-section for a 22-year-old woman suffering from kidney failure and lupus, a day after the Supreme Court ruled that she could not have an abortion despite her lawyers’ appeal that the pregnancy was life-threatening. Ultrasound images indicated that her fetus was developing with only a brain stem and was given no chance of surviving. The C-section was performed on June 3. Her baby girl, born without a brain, died within hours.
