Parents are a major influence in the career development of a child. They are the ones who know and understand their children the better than any other person. So, it is advisable that parents play the role of a facilitator in their child’s career journey.

The world is changing, and the dreams of each child change accordingly. With this, children want to have the right to choose their career path and live their dreams as desired. However, in the real world, parents prefer to be involved in their children’s affair rather than be on a back seat. So, who should choose a career for a child; the child himself, parents or both?

Here are the reasons parents should be involved in choosing their child’s career:

Career impacts one’s entire future

A person gets an opportunity to decide the career (s)he wants only once in a lifetime. Once (s)he fails to move on the right track, the whole future dwindle down. So, parents are to help enhance their child’s decision making when it comes to choosing a career path. Here, parents serve as a guide while making the decision.

Every child is different and unique

It should be noted that not everyone is the same, and what works for particular child might not work for the other one. Some possess a good communication skills and strong intellect for mathematics while some have good writing skills. So, parents are to observe their child to understand their child’s strengths and weaknesses. This way, parents won’t force their children towards a particular career path.

When children feel supported by their parents, they develop a sense of confidence while in school or while choosing their career path. Also, children feel accepted and respected in their decision making. This can actually place a high priority on their academic achievement.

It is understandable that parents want their children to find success in their career and one factor which influences success is career. To achieve this, parents are to act as a guide and facilitator to their children.
