Garlic, an allium plant family with about 10-20 cloves in a bulb, is a plant which serves both as a medicine and cooking ingredient. It serves as a cooking spice due to its great flavour, and as a herbal supplement as a result of its sulphur compound properties which contribute to the biological effect it has on the body when consumed. Below are some of the health benefits of garlic.

Garlic Supplements Combat Flu:

According to numerous studies on the health benefits of garlic, it was discovered that it is capable of improving the human immune system. Sicknesses related to cold and flu were also observed to be subdued after a daily garlic intake. Hence, introducing garlic into our daily diet can help combat health conditions related to common cold and flu.

Garlic Reduces Blood Pressure and Heart Diseases:

Heart-related diseases such as stroke, heart attacks amongst others are often stimulated by high blood pressure. Studies show that, when taken in high, but reasonable proportion, garlic helps regulate blood pressure. The recommended daily dosage is 4-5 cloves of garlic.
Apart from this, garlic supplements help reduce the high and toxic cholesterol level which are known to make the body vulnerable to the heart diseases stated above.

Including garlic in our daily diet increases the antioxidant enzymes in the body system. These enzymes help combat damages that speed up the ageing process in humans. These oxidants also protect the body against cell damages.
