Pregnancy also known as gravidity or gestation, it is the time during which one or more offspring develops inside a woman. It occurs by sexual intercourse or Assisted Reproductive Technology. It last for 40 weeks i.e. 9 months, from the time of last menstrual period and ends in childbirth.

Pregnancy is divided into 3stages;

First trimester: 1-20weeks

Second trimester: 13-28weeks

Third trimester: 29-40weeks

Pregnancy period is a time when the woman needs to eat rightly and engaged in the right things because the woman is growing a baby within herself.


Omega 3 fatty acid: This is very necessary for the early visual growth of the baby and it also help with breast milk after giving birth. The importance of omega 3 cannot be over emphasized. Examples of OMEGA 3 include eggs, fish and seafood, margarine, soy milk, yoghurt, bread.

High quality protein: protein is a very essential diet everyone must include in their meal to make it balance. It helps in growth and development of the baby’s nervous system and brain. Examples include egg, milk, yoghurt, soya, pork, chicken, turkey, beans.

Abstain from alcohol: alcohol is harmful to the pregnant woman and also to her baby because this can cause deformity and brain damage to the baby.

Eat smaller quantity of food: pregnant women shouldn’t take a large portion of food at the same time because this can cause morning sickness and heart burn.

Avoid smoking and cut down on caffeine: smoking while pregnant is a dangerous thing to do because this has a negative effect on the child and also the mother. Caffeine when consumed at a high level is risky to the baby’s health and can also lead to miscarriage.

Therefore pregnancy is a period where one has to eat rich foods with all the necessary vitamins in order not to have complications during birth.  Expecting a child is worth celebrating, stay happy, and stay healthy.
